↗A white nineteenth-century lighthouse on Turnberry Point, South Ayrshire, overlooking the outer Firth of Clyde. Built to guide vessels clear of Bristo Rock, it stands beside the remains of Turnberry Castle and a coastline with unusually revealing volcanic geology.

↗A shallow, nutrient-rich loch on Glasgow’s north-eastern edge, Bishop Loch is part of the Seven Lochs Wetland Park. Its open water, reedbeds, marsh, grassland and woodland make it an unusually varied pocket of wetland habitat beside Easterhouse.

↗A substantial medieval castle ruin on a terrace above a bend in the River Clyde, near Bothwell in South Lanarkshire. Its huge circular keep, incomplete defences and later chapel reflect a long, contested history, while mature woodland gives the site a notably green riverside setting.

↗A large country park on Hamilton’s southern edge, where the Avon Water cuts through mature woodland below an 18th-century hunting lodge. Chatelherault combines remnants of the Hamilton estate’s formal landscape with old trees, gorge scenery and the ruins of Cadzow Castle.

↗A disused 1897 steel railway viaduct over the River Clyde, linking Carmyle in Glasgow with Westburn near Cambuslang. Its three lattice-girder spans recall the industrial rail network that served the east side of Glasgow, while its later history reflects a difficult divide between the two riverbank communities.

↗Cuningar Loop is a riverside woodland park on a broad meander of the River Clyde, between Rutherglen and Dalmarnock. Formerly neglected industrial land, it has been reshaped into a mix of young woodland, meadow, paths, public art and open space.

↗A large historic park in Glasgow’s East End, Tollcross Park combines the former grounds of Tollcross House with open grass, mature trees, formal garden areas and Victorian glasshouse heritage. It is a substantial green space within the built-up Tollcross and Shettleston area.

↗Hogganfield Loch is a shallow urban loch in north-east Glasgow, forming the heart of Hogganfield Park Local Nature Reserve. Part of the wider Seven Lochs Wetland Park, it combines open water, wetland edges and mature green space, with a long public history and a particularly strong reputation for wetland birds.

↗Provan Hall is a rare survivor of medieval and early modern Glasgow: a pair of historic buildings and formal gardens in Auchinlea Park, Easterhouse. Its stone roofs, enclosed courtyard and contrast with the surrounding city make it a distinctive subject, while the nearby Seven Lochs landscape adds useful wider context.

↗Balloch Castle is a castellated early-19th-century country house in Balloch Castle Country Park, on the south-east shore of Loch Lomond. Designed by Robert Lugar for John Buchanan of Ardoch, it stands within a much older estate whose medieval castle survives only as a nearby earthwork and moat depression.
